For a Shopify store, WhatFlow is the better WhatsApp choice than Gupshup. WhatFlow is a ready-made Shopify app on the official Meta WhatsApp Cloud API: order templates, COD confirmation, native Shopify Flow and a team inbox with no seat fees, all on the Free plan and working the day you install it. Gupshup is a broad conversational AI and messaging platform for companies building across many channels.

One is a Shopify app. The other is a platform you'd build a Shopify app on.

Core focus

Platform vs a ready-made Shopify app

Gupshup's homepage describes Conversation Cloud for campaigns and drip journeys, AI agents for sales, support, invoicing and KYC that escalate to human teams, an AI co-pilot for agents, and Voice AI across WhatsApp, RCS, SMS, voice and Instagram. That's a big, capable toolkit.

What it doesn't hand you is a Shopify order workflow. Someone has to connect your store events, map order data to templates, handle COD replies and give staff a place to answer. If you have a product team, fine. If you're a Shopify merchant with a support lead and a warehouse, that's weeks of work you don't need.

WhatFlow ships it ready. Here's a COD confirmation, switched on from Shopify admin:

Hi Ayesha, thanks for your order #3318 for Rs 4,200, paid on delivery. Please confirm and we'll dispatch today. [Confirm] [Cancel]

When she taps a button, WhatFlow's order reply trigger fires in Shopify Flow, which tags or cancels the order.

Full setup: turn WhatsApp order replies into Shopify actions with Flow.

What does each option cost?

WhatFlow's pricing is published on the Shopify App Store. As of November 2026: Free (every feature, 100 sends), Starter $4.99/month (2,000 sends), Plus $9.99 (5,000), Growth $29 (20,000), Scale $49.99 (40,000), Ultimate $99 (75,000). No seat fees and no feature tiers. A store sending 1,000 messages a month pays $4.99.

Gupshup's homepage doesn't list prices; it links to a pricing page. Ask for a quote that includes the Shopify integration, any partner work and the agent interface. Meta's per-message fees apply on both sides (Meta pricing); our WhatsApp Business API pricing guide explains how they work. Current WhatFlow amounts are on the pricing page.

What about AI?

Gupshup leads with AI agents. WhatFlow has no built-in AI bot, and I'd rather say that plainly. What it has instead is WhatFlow's MCP connector: Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor can read Live Inbox chats, look up Shopify orders and draft replies that a person approves before anything is sent. What WhatFlow gives you instead is the part most Shopify stores need first: reliable order messages from Shopify events, COD confirmation that updates orders, Shopify Flow routing for incoming messages, saved replies, and a team inbox where people who know the products answer. If you're curious where AI fits in a small store, our take is in using AI for support drafts while keeping answers accurate.

Enterprise-ready on the official API

WhatFlow is often mistaken for a small-store tool on an unofficial connection. It isn't. WhatFlow's WhatsApp Business API app runs on the official Meta WhatsApp Cloud API, connected through Meta's Embedded Signup, and it's built for teams at scale: shared inbox with assignment and filters, no seat fees at any team size, Shopify Flow automation, COD, live catalog sharing and Shopify admin extensions. It's rated 5.0 out of 5 from 55 ratings on the Shopify App Store (checked November 5, 2026).

When testing WhatFlow and Gupshup, ask: Which actions can you run inside Shopify Flow? WhatFlow has separate Shopify Flow blocks, API-triggered Inbox Workflows and in-chat WhatsApp forms. Try the catalog cart workflow if you need to connect a buyer reply with a Shopify action.

When Gupshup might still make sense

Pick Gupshup only if you specifically need AI agents or Voice AI across several channels and markets, and you have the technical team to connect it to Shopify and your other systems. For a Shopify store's order messages and customer chats, it's more platform than the job requires.

The bottom line

Gupshup is a conversational platform for big builds. WhatFlow is the ready-made Shopify WhatsApp app: official Meta Cloud API, order automation, COD, Shopify Flow and a no-seat-fee team inbox, free to start. Install it and run your first order message today. Weighing other providers? See WhatFlow vs 360dialog and WhatFlow vs Infobip.

Questions worth asking

Is WhatFlow a good Gupshup alternative for Shopify?

Yes, for Shopify stores. WhatFlow runs on the official Meta Cloud API and packages order templates, COD confirmation, Shopify Flow and a no-seat-fee team inbox into one app with a free plan. Gupshup suits companies building AI agents and voice journeys across several channels.

How does Gupshup pricing compare with WhatFlow?

WhatFlow publishes its plans: Free, then from $4.99/month as of November 2026, with no seat fees. Gupshup doesn't list prices on its homepage, so compare a quote that includes the Shopify integration and the interface your team will use.

Does WhatFlow charge per inbox seat?

No. WhatFlow's team inbox has no seat fees at any team size. You pay only for your message plan and Meta's fees.

Are WhatFlow features restricted on the free plan?

No. All plans have the same features. Message allowances and rates differ, Meta's delivery charges are separate, and theme-matched WhatsApp buttons are free forever.

Does WhatFlow have AI agents like Gupshup?

WhatFlow has no built-in AI bot. It lets you connect the AI you already use through WhatFlow's MCP connector, so Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor can read chats and draft replies that a person approves. Otherwise it focuses on Shopify order automation, Shopify Flow, COD confirmation and a team inbox where your staff answer, which is what most Shopify stores need from WhatsApp.
