For most Shopify stores, pick WhatFlow over Kanal. Both run on the official WhatsApp Business API, so the difference is what you pay and what you get. WhatFlow includes every feature on every plan from Free, has no seat fees and puts WhatsApp inside Shopify Flow. Kanal is a polished WhatsApp marketing app, but its Pro plan is $89 a month for a single user.
When testing WhatFlow and Kanal, ask: Can your team run a test and handle the replies after the send? In WhatFlow, test a Shopify customer or segment send, then try scheduling a separate Inbox broadcast from a spreadsheet or existing conversations. The campaign walkthrough shows the test send, reply handoff and recipient report.
If you've heard WhatFlow described as "the unofficial WhatsApp app for small shops", that's an old picture. WhatFlow WhatsApp Business API runs on the official Meta Cloud API, connects through Meta Embedded Signup in Shopify admin, and is built for teams of any size: inbox assignment and filters, no seat fees, Shopify Flow automation, COD confirmation, catalog sharing and a 5.0 rating.

How much does Kanal cost compared with WhatFlow?
Kanal's Shopify listing shows, as of November 2026:
- Pro, $89/month: abandoned cart recovery, WhatsApp campaigns, chat widget and shared inbox, order confirmation, revenue dashboard, 1 user.
- Scale, $149/month: everything in Pro plus more users, SMS/iMessage/RCS campaigns, a WhatsApp AI agent, custom segments, A/B tests, carousels and Klaviyo, Gorgias, Recharge and Crisp integrations.
Kanal's own pricing page also lists done-for-you Business (€350/month) and Agency (€1,900/month) tiers.
Now a realistic store: three people on WhatsApp (founder, support agent, ops lead), sending about 15,000 messages a month across confirmations, shipping updates and campaigns.
Monthly cost before Meta fees | Kanal | WhatFlow |
|---|---|---|
Plan that fits 3 users | Scale, $149 | Growth, $29 (20,000 sends) |
Extra seats | Included in Scale | $0 |
Total | $149 | $29 |
A solo founder on Kanal Pro still pays $89 a month. On WhatFlow, the same founder can start on Free and move to Starter ($4.99, 2,000 sends) or Plus ($9.99, 5,000 sends) as sending grows. Meta's fees apply to both, so they don't change the gap. Current WhatFlow amounts are on the pricing page, and our API pricing guide explains Meta's October 2026 changes.
The segment and A/B test gate matters too. On Kanal, those are Scale features. On WhatFlow every feature is already on the Free plan: our view on all features vs feature gating explains why we built it that way.

Which one fits Shopify workflows better?
Kanal covers the classic WhatsApp revenue flows well: abandoned cart, campaigns, order confirmation and COD verification. WhatFlow covers the same jobs and connects them to the rest of your store through Shopify Flow.
WhatFlow adds WhatsApp triggers (incoming message, order reply) and actions (send template, text, media) to Shopify Flow. So a COD reply becomes an order change:
Bonjour Léa, merci pour votre commande #6604 (59 €, paiement à la livraison). On l'expédie aujourd'hui ? [Confirmer] [Annuler]
Confirm tags the order cod-confirmed. Cancel flags it for review or cancels it. Because it's Shopify Flow, the same workflow can call actions from other apps that support Flow, and Shopify Sidekick can draft it for you.

WhatFlow also shares live catalog items from the inbox, so an agent answering "do you have this in black?" can send the exact product, and the theme-matched chat button is free forever.
Is WhatFlow ready for bigger teams?
Yes. WhatFlow's team inbox has assignment, filters and saved replies, and seats are free whether you have 2 agents or 40. Templates go through Meta's official approval, business profiles are green-tick eligible through Meta, and automation runs on Shopify Flow.
On Kanal, a second team member means moving from Pro to Scale, a $60 monthly jump before Meta fees. On WhatFlow, headcount never changes your plan, so you can add support staff for a sale weekend and remove them after without touching billing.
How do you switch from Kanal to WhatFlow?
Moving is a short checklist, and the order matters:
- Install WhatFlow WhatsApp Business API from the Shopify App Store and start on the Free plan.
- Connect your WhatsApp number through Meta Embedded Signup inside Shopify admin. If the number is still connected to Kanal, ask them how to release or migrate it first.
- Recreate your key templates in WhatFlow's template editor (COD confirmation, abandoned checkout, shipping update) and submit them to Meta for approval.
- Note which Kanal flows bring in revenue (usually cart recovery and order confirmation) and rebuild those first as Shopify Flow workflows with WhatFlow actions. Campaigns can follow once your templates are approved.
- Invite your whole team to the inbox. There's no seat fee, so include the warehouse and weekend cover too.
- Turn on the theme-matched chat button and send yourself a test order before going live.
When Kanal might still make sense
Pick Kanal if you want a WhatsApp AI agent, SMS and RCS campaigns from the same tool, or a done-for-you service where Kanal's team builds and runs your campaigns. WhatFlow has no built-in AI bot (though WhatFlow's MCP connector lets Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor draft replies a person approves) and doesn't offer managed campaign services.
The bottom line
WhatFlow gives a Shopify store the official Meta Cloud API, native Shopify Flow automation, COD confirmation, catalog sharing and a team inbox with no seat fees, all on the Free plan and from $4.99 a month when you need more sends. On Kanal, one user starts at $89. Start free and bring the whole team.
