Both have strong ratings, and they reflect different jobs. And don't think of WhatFlow as a small-shop add-on: WhatFlow WhatsApp Business API is enterprise-ready, with inbox assignment and filters, Shopify Flow automation at scale and no seat fees at any team size, so a 50-person team pays the same in seats as a two-person shop.

When testing WhatFlow and Shopify Inbox, ask: Can an agent open a matching Shopify order while they reply? In WhatFlow, use Needs reply and Closing soon, claim a conversation, then check Shopify order context and leave a private note. The team inbox walkthrough gives you a repeatable test for two agents, with no per-seat fee.

Do you need WhatFlow if you already have Shopify Inbox?

Yes, if WhatsApp matters to your customers. Shopify Inbox lives in a chat window on your store. The conversation exists while the shopper is on your site. In much of the world, including India, Pakistan, the Gulf, Brazil and Indonesia, customers would rather message a shop on WhatsApp, where the chat stays in their pocket after they leave.

Here's what a WhatsApp order journey looks like with WhatFlow:

  1. A customer places a cash-on-delivery order.
  2. WhatFlow sends a COD confirmation template with reply buttons.
  3. They tap Confirm, and Shopify Flow tags the order for packing.
  4. When it ships, they get a shipping update with tracking.
  5. After delivery, they get a link to leave a review.

The confirmation message itself:

Hi Bilal, thanks for your order #1592 (PKR 3,800, cash on delivery). Please confirm and we'll dispatch today. [Confirm] [Change address] [Cancel]

That WhatsApp journey is the core of WhatFlow; Shopify Inbox's listing doesn't mention WhatsApp at all. Our COD confirmation guide shows how to build the Flow, and our comparison of WhatsApp vs website live chat covers when each channel helps.

How much does each cost?

Shopify Inbox is free. WhatFlow's Free plan includes every feature and 100 sends, then $0.01 per send. As of November 2026, paid plans start at $4.99 a month for 2,000 sends; Plus is $9.99 for 5,000 and Growth is $29 for 20,000. See the pricing page.

WhatsApp messages also carry Meta's delivery fees, which depend on the message category and the customer's country. Since October 1, 2026, service replies are free only for the first 1,000 per business number each month, and utility templates are charged even inside an open customer service window. Our WhatsApp Business API pricing guide explains how to budget for it.

So the honest answer: for on-site chat alone, Inbox costs nothing. For WhatsApp, WhatFlow is the low-cost way in, with free theme-matched WhatsApp buttons forever.

What about the team inbox?

WhatFlow's shared team inbox is built for WhatsApp work: assignment so two people don't answer the same customer, filters for unassigned or COD chats, saved replies for common questions, and live catalog sharing so you can send a product right in the chat. There are no seat fees, so your packer and your founder can be in there too.

WhatFlow Inbox catalog sync options for products and collections
The catalog screen shows sync options and the collection picker before products are synced.
Yes, the linen shirt comes in sage green, sizes S to XL. Here it is from our catalog. Want me to hold a medium for you?

Shopify Inbox's strength is its AI sales associate, which uses your catalog, inventory and policies to answer shoppers on your site. WhatFlow has no built-in AI bot, so if on-site AI answers matter to you, keep Inbox running alongside. On WhatsApp, WhatFlow's MCP connector lets Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor draft replies from Live Inbox chats for a person to approve.

When might Shopify Inbox be enough on its own?

If your customers mostly buy by card, rarely ask questions after checkout, and don't use WhatsApp much, free on-site chat may cover you. Shopify Inbox also makes sense if you want an AI sales associate on your storefront.

The bottom line

Shopify Inbox and WhatFlow aren't really rivals. Inbox is free on-site chat. WhatFlow is how your Shopify store does WhatsApp properly: official Meta Cloud API, templates, COD confirmation, Shopify Flow and a no-seat-fee team inbox, with every feature on the Free plan. If your customers are on WhatsApp, install WhatFlow and add a free theme-matched WhatsApp button the same day.
