Bigger team? WhatFlow scales with you. It's the official Meta WhatsApp Cloud API, with Meta-approved templates and a business profile that's eligible for Meta's verified badge, an inbox with assignment and filters and no seat fees at any team size, and automation that runs inside Shopify Flow rather than in a side tool. Enterprise-ready, without enterprise pricing, and still free to start.

What does a Shopify WhatsApp build on Vonage involve?

Picture what happens between "customer places an order" and "customer's question is answered":

  1. Shopify fires an order event.
  2. Something picks it up, finds the phone number and checks opt-in.
  3. It fills a Meta-approved template with the order details and sends it.
  4. Delivery status comes back and needs storing somewhere.
  5. The customer replies, and a person needs a screen to read and answer it.
  6. If the reply is "Cancel", the Shopify order needs updating.

Vonage handles the sending in step 3, the status in step 4 and receiving the reply in step 5. Everything else, including the screen your team answers from, is code your team writes and maintains. In WhatFlow, all six steps are already there: the template editor maps Shopify fields, Flow triggers handle the reply, and the team inbox is the screen. If you're weighing this properly, read Shopify WhatsApp app vs building on Meta Cloud API.

How much does it cost?

WhatFlow plans differ only by message allowance: Free (100 sends), Starter $4.99 (2,000), Plus $9.99 (5,000), Growth $29 (20,000), Scale $49.99 (40,000). Say you send 40,000 WhatsApp messages a month; that's $49.99 on Scale, inbox included, no seat fees. Rates are on the pricing page.

With Vonage, add the channel fees to developer hours and ongoing maintenance. Meta's per-message charges apply to both (Meta's pricing). Our guide to auditing Shopify app costs explains why the headline price is rarely the full number.

What WhatFlow gives you without code

  • Order, shipping and abandoned-checkout templates filled from Shopify data.
  • COD confirmation buttons that tag or cancel orders through Flow.
  • Native Shopify Flow triggers (incoming message, order reply) and actions (template, text, media).
  • Live catalog sharing and saved replies in the inbox.
  • Free theme-matched WhatsApp buttons.

A saved reply your team might use twenty times a day:

Thanks for waiting! Your order is packed and leaves our warehouse today. You'll get a tracking link here on WhatsApp as soon as the courier scans it.

Moving your WhatsApp work to WhatFlow: a short checklist

  1. Keep Vonage running for whatever it already does well while you set up.
  2. Install WhatFlow and connect your WhatsApp number with Meta's Embedded Signup from Shopify admin.
  3. Rebuild your most-used WhatsApp message as a template in the WhatFlow editor, mapped to Shopify order fields.
  4. Add one Shopify Flow workflow, for example tagging an order when the customer taps Confirm.
  5. Add your team to the inbox (no seat fees) and load five saved replies for your most common questions.
  6. Once the first workflow runs cleanly for a week, move the next one.

Start with the message that costs you the most time today. For most COD stores, that's order confirmation.

When Vonage might still make sense

Pick Vonage only if you're building a custom communications product, maybe your own customer portal across several systems, and you have engineers who'll own it. For a Shopify store's WhatsApp, that's more than you need.

The bottom line

Vonage gives developers a messaging pipe. WhatFlow gives a Shopify store a working WhatsApp operation: templates, COD, Flow and a no-seat-fee inbox, free to start. Compare WhatFlow vs Twilio if you're looking at other APIs, then install WhatFlow and skip the build.

Questions worth asking

Can I use Vonage for WhatsApp on Shopify without a developer?

Not really. Vonage Messages API is built for developers, so connecting Shopify events, templates and a reply inbox is custom work. WhatFlow is a no-code Shopify app that does this out of the box, starting free.

Is WhatFlow cheaper than Vonage for a Shopify store?

Usually, once you count the build. WhatFlow starts free with every feature and paid plans from $4.99/month, including the team inbox with no seat fees. With Vonage you pay channel fees plus development and maintenance; Meta's WhatsApp charges apply to both.

Does WhatFlow charge per inbox seat?

No. WhatFlow's team inbox has no seat fees, so your support, sales and fulfilment people can all answer WhatsApp without the bill changing. You pay for a message plan, and Meta bills its WhatsApp charges separately, as it would with Vonage.

Is the WhatFlow Free plan limited?

No features are held back. The Free plan includes templates, Shopify Flow triggers and actions, COD confirmation, catalog sharing and the team inbox. Paid plans from $4.99/month only add message allowance at lower rates, and the theme-matched WhatsApp button is free forever.
